A Good Hobbit
Microhouses are all the rage—especially in Portlandia.
Small is the new black. Microhouses—or abodes between 100 and 2,500 square feet, like these prefabulous one-bedrooms in NYC—are all over blogs and books, and now (not surprisingly) these super-efficient and sustainable spaces have caught the eye of the comedians over at Portlandia.
But c'mon, Fred and Carrie, they aren't that bad. Sure, you won't find room for your 360-inch flatscreen, but let's face it: That's a good thing. Smaller appliances (and TVs) burn less electricity, and along with shrinking your home's physical footprint, you'll shrink your carbon one, too. And that's a very big deal.
