Hilarious (and sincere) red carpet highlights from NRDC’s Night of Comedy.

November 06, 2014

After agonizing over Tuesday's election results, we figured our readers could use some laughs. So we sent MTV’s Josh Horowitz to cover NRDC’s Night of Comedy, part of the 2014 New York Comedy Festival. (Note: NRDC publishes Earthwire—how else do you think a nonprofit environmental publication could get a coveted spot on the red carpet? Hey there, Vanity Fair, make room!)

Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, Amy Schumer, Aasif Mandvi, Megan Boone, and many other comedians and celebs turned out for the NRDC benefit. Host Seth Meyers got the ball rolling with this monologue:

"Let's be honest—if you love the environment, not a great election result. At this point, a giant tornado could form and just start whipping its way across America, and in that wind it could grab every single handgun in this country, and then the tornado would start firing those handguns indiscriminately upon the citizenship of this great nation. But when it was over, you would say to those people, 'Will you admit now, after the gun tornado, that we have a gun control issue and a climate change issue?' They would say, 'No, that all happened because you let gays get married.' That's what you're up against."

Here's coverage from the Hollywood Reporter, and watch the red carpet highlights (Jerry skipped it, sorry):
