Trump administration plans to promote fossil fuels at the U.N. Climate Change Conference

Trump already made himself into an international pariah on climate change when he pledged to pull out of the Paris climate agreement, and now the White House says the administration will be singing coal’s praises at…wait for it…the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany. That’s right—at the very meeting where 195 countries will be working together on serious solutions to the most pressing issue of our time, the United States will supply speakers from a coal company, a nuclear engineering firm, and a natural gas exporter to give a presentation on “The Role of Cleaner and More Efficient Fossil Fuels and Nuclear Power in Climate Mitigation.” “It’s embarrassing,” Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz told the New York Times. “After forfeiting international leadership on climate, the Trump White House is compounding their error with a silly stunt. Fossil fuel companies are not clean energy companies, and no amount of spin will change that.” That about sums it up. Learn to read the room (or rather, the globe), guys!
