Save the Clean Power Plan
What's At Stake
The Clean Power Plan is the single-most important way America can fight climate change.
And yet, President Trump and his administration are trying to repeal it.
Fossil-fueled power plants are responsible for nearly 40 percent of America’s carbon footprint. The Clean Power Plan calls for setting limits on this climate-warming pollution from these power plants, specifically at least 32 percent by 2030, compared to 2005 levels. By 2030, the Clean Power Plan could save the United States $20 billion in climate-related costs and deliver up to $34 billion in health benefits.
Despite all this, in August 2018, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler proposed a new rule that would repeal the groundbreaking policy.
Dismantling the Clean Power Plan isn’t going to bring back coal jobs, as the Trump administration claims. Doing so would actually sacrifice up to 560,000 new clean energy jobs and $52 billion in additional economic growth that would come from the solar, wind, and energy efficiency industries. Plus, pulling the plug on the Clean Power Plan is illegal, so NRDC and our partners are holding the Trump administration to account in court.
There’s no time to waste on the Trump administration’s climate reversal. To get our clean energy future back on track, we must act now.
