Turtle Tunes

On this World Sea Turtle Day, get this little turtle ditty stuck in your head.

June 16, 2015

It’s not easy being green…or a loggerhead, or a Kemp’s ridley, or a hawksbill…or any kind of sea turtle, really. Sea turtles have been swimming the oceans for more than 100 million years, but now (thanks to us) six of the seven species are classified as endangered or vulnerable. Poaching, development, marine pollution, and ocean warming all threaten these ancient reptiles. Fighting those destructive forces through conservation takes education—and that’s where The Whizpops step in.

This Missoula, Montana–based band has a knack for writing lighthearted, catchy children’s songs with sneakily educational lyrics. Their video manages to cheerily send the message that while “totally tubular,” sea turtles are in serious danger. So today, on World Sea Turtle Day, it’s time to bop along with these majestic marine creatures, and then hopefully do something to ensure they will be here tomorrow.
