Congress Moves Forward with President’s Budget

Lays Groundwork for Clean Energy Economy

WASHINGTON (March 26, 2009) - The Senate tonight joined the House in passing a Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Resolution through the Budget Committee. The Senate and House will vote next week on final passage of these resolutions.

Following is a statement from Franz Matzner, acting legislative director for the Natural Resources Defense Council:

"Congress understands that now is the time to reduce global warming and invest in a new clean energy future for our country. The budget proposals reflect President Obama's commitment to halt climate change and spur investment in a new clean energy economy. This budget paves the way for the urgent climate legislation we need to jumpstart our economy and protect the planet."
