Comments on EPA’s Proposed Interim Registration Review Decisions for Neonics

May 05, 2020

NRDC, joined by the Sierra Club and Pesticide Action Network North America, submitted these comments opposing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed interim registration decision for neonicotinoid insecticides (“neonics”). Neonics are the most commonly used class of insecticide in the U.S., and extensive research shows that they are a leading cause of bee declines and a major contributor to mass bird losses and the collapse of aquatic ecosystems. Moreover, these chemicals are widespread in food and drinking water, and likely have adverse effects on the developing nervous system of infants and children. Despite these many risks, EPA’s proposal would permit continued, widespread use of neonics for years to come.
