A federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia has dismissed a lawsuit brought by the Massachusetts Lobsterman’s Association challenging President Obama’s designation of the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, concluding that the monument was lawfully established. “The Court concludes that, just as President Roosevelt had the authority to establish the Grand Canyon National Monument in 1908, . . . so President Obama could establish the Canyons and Seamounts Monument in 2016.”
