The Demeaning of Independence: Response to the Pebble Limited Partnership-Funded Cohen Review of EPA’s Proposal to Protect Salmon from Large-Scale Mining in Bristol Bay, Alaska

NRDC’s review and response to the report released by former Secretary of Defense William Cohen, The Cohen Group, and DLA Piper LLP – commissioned by their client The Pebble Limited Partnership – that critiqued the U.S Environmental Protection Agency’s review and proposed action with respect to the Pebble Mine, proposed to be constructed in the headwaters of Bristol Bay, Alaska.  After a thorough review of the Cohen Report, NRDC documented in detail that the Report is not only lacking in independence, but lacking on the merit – and that its criticisms of EPA are unfounded as a matter of fact and law.
