Lost in the Woods: Canada’s Hidden Logging Emissions Are Equivalent to Those from Oil Sands Operations

This report shows, based on government data, that Canada’s logging industry is one of the country’s largest climate liabilities, with annual net emissions on par with those from tar sands operations. Canada’s failure to acknowledge logging’s emissions leaves a significant hole in its national climate plan and has laid a flawed foundation for its forest policies. For Canada to truly meet its 2030 climate targets and lead globally, it needs to transparently and accurately report logging’s net climate impact and regulate the industry alongside all other high-emissions sectors.
