Neonicotinoids in California: Their Use and Threats to the State’s Aquatic Ecosystems and Pollinators, with a Focus on Neonic-Treated Seeds

Report, commissioned by NRDC, by Dr. Pierre Mineau regarding neonicotinoid insecticides or “neonics” in California—specifically, on the use of neonic-treated seeds, which the California Department of Pesticide Regulation has exempted from any state regulation or tracking. The report finds that these pesticide-coated seeds may account for one of the largest and most widespread insecticide uses in California, and one which likely contributes to the widespread pollution of state waters and causes substantial harm to pollinators and the state’s ecosystems generally.
