NRDC Comments on North Carolina’s Proposed CDBG-MIT Application

December 11, 2019

North Carolina’s application for $168 million in CDBG-MIT funding from HUD is golden opportunity for the state to expand its climate resilience efforts. Planning activities, development of climate-informed building and zoning codes, updating regulations that take future conditions into account, and developing a statewide climate risk assessment (as called for by Governor Cooper) are all eligible activities. But the state is missing the big picture and is instead focusing on narrow set of projects, which have merit, but do not address the state’s larger challenges.
