A Holistic Approach to Reducing Food Waste

We know today that the United States wastes an extraordinary amount of its food. Up to 40 percent of all food in the country—much of it perfectly wholesome—ends up in landfills, instead of on people’s plates or being composted. In 2012, NRDC’s groundbreaking report on food waste revealed the startling scope of this problem and catapulted the issue into the public consciousness. Today, through public awareness campaigns, partnerships with local cities, and federal advocacy, NRDC still leads the way when it comes to reducing food waste.
