Transparency and Safety of Meat Processing Plant Workers

June 17, 2020

Conservation and farmworker advocacy groups sent North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper a letter, urging him to make public all data on race and ethnicity related to COVID-19 tests, cases and fatalities, including more detailed information on outbreaks at meat and poultry processing plants across the state. The groups are also pressing Gov. Cooper to require employers to implement policies that will better protect workers and their communities from the ongoing health crisis. The letter underscores the urgency of information sharing and highlights the crucial need for transparency in light of the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 and historic pollution on Black, Latinx and Indigenous communities.
