Schools are going drug-free (when it comes to chicken). -
In response to health concerns over the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, six of the country's largest school districts—New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Miami-Dade County, and Orlando County—are pledging to eliminate drug-laden poultry from their cafeterias, putting pressure on large producers to do the same. (NRDC, which publishes Earthwire, helped launch the initiative.) Collectively, the schools serve about 2.6 million meals annually ... and that folks, is a heckuva lot of nuggets. Reuters
