Threat Assessment -

Even after some conservative congressmen told them to cut it out, those crazy generals over at the Pentagon keep warning about the risks of climate change. In a new report out today, the U.S. military says once again that "climate change poses an immediate threat to national security, with increased risks from terrorism, infectious disease, global poverty, and food shortages." The oceans have probably warmed a lot more than we thought since the 1970s, according to a new study. We mostly measure seas in the Northern Hemipshere, but it looks like a lot of the heat from global warming is actually being absorbed south of the equator, where we don't sample much (even though three-fifths of the world's oceans are down there). New York Times
