In boon to mining industry, Trump administration moves to limit uranium imports

Domestic uranium mining could soon increase thanks to the latest aggressive trade restriction by the Trump administration. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced Wednesday a new investigation into whether the United States should enact quotas for uranium imports—which would be a boost for the American uranium mining industry. Mining companies falsely claim that the country's reliance on imports is a national security threat, despite independent nuclear experts assuring us that we can rely on our large stockpile for decades, if needed. Access to untapped uranium resources is thought to be the reason behind Trump's controversial reduction of Bears Ears National Monument. But as a whole, the practice threatens to harm workers and contaminate water supplies (though that doesn't tend to bother this administration).
