EPA officially issues the Dirty Water Rule—and ignores the science in doing so

The Trump administration just finalized its plan to radically restrict which bodies of water are protected under the Clean Water Act. Signed today, the rollback denies federal protections for countless streams and wetlands, even though they affect the health of the larger bodies of water they flow into. Wetlands are of particular importance, as they filter contaminated runoff, prevent flood damage, and replenish groundwater supplies. The administration is now willfully ignoring the mountain of scientific evidence that demonstrates just how much our waterways interconnect, as well as the fact that it’s putting the drinking water supplies for millions of Americans at risk.
