Colorado’s Gunnison National Forest is next on the chopping block for President Trump. The U.S. Forest Service is currently considering a proposal that would allow Arch Coal to mine 17 million tons of coal in more than 1,700 acres of the wilderness area. Environmental groups are already responding strongly to the possible lease expansion, citing destruction of forest, wildlife, air quality, and water as just some of the consequences of the mining operation. This initiative typifies the continued focus of the Trump administration on pursuing dirty energy at the expense of our nation's public lands and pristine natural environments.
