The Trump administration’s proposed budget goes hard after popular (and hugely successful) energy programs, specifically targeting renewable energy and efficiency technologies. One look at a leaked draft budget for the U.S. Department of Energy shows a 70 percent funding cut for renewable energy and a 79 percent reduction for energy efficiency. Even the entrenched dirty energy industries backed by Trump don’t come out unscathed, with agency spending on fossil fuels and nuclear power slashed 54 percent and 31 percent, respectively. The Trump administration is expected to send this 2018 budget request to Congress soon.
