At a White House meeting today with CEOs from some of America’s largest corporations, President Trump threatened to wipe out federal regulations that he claimed hinder business profits. “We're going to be cutting regulation massively,” Trump promised the attendees, in front of the media. Some of the environmental regulations on the chopping block include the standards that keep lead out of drinking water, protect people from pesticide poisoning, reduce air toxins that threaten children’s health, and limit climate-wrecking carbon pollution. In addition to reducing regulations by a whopping 75 percent, Trump also pledged to cut corporate taxes from 35 percent to 15 percent as a way to stimulate U.S.-based manufacturing. Repealing federal safeguards or relaxing regulatory enforcement puts Americans at risk for the sake of polluter profits.
