White House orders federal agencies to ignore Congressional Democrats

So long, government transparency. The White House has instituted an information freeze across federal agencies, ordering officials to ignore oversight requests from Democratic members of Congress. This explains why the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and others have refused to respond to oversight requests since President Trump took office. According to the Washington Post, “A White House spokeswoman said the policy of the administration is ‘to accommodate the requests of chairmen, regardless of their political party.’ There are no Democratic chairmen, as Congress is controlled by Republicans.” No prior White House has instituted a blanket refusal to respond to congressional oversight requests from the other political party and this greatly increases the risk of potential Trump administration cover-ups and wrongdoing that escape public accountability.
