Lena Freij (she/her)

Lena Freij works to reduce or eliminate the use of pesticides that are harmful to pollinators. Prior to joining NRDC, Freij was the Honors Attorney Fellow at EPA Region 10, where she brought administrative enforcement actions against violators of air, waste, pesticide, and toxics statutes. She received a Cross-Office Bronze Award for her work there on EPA legal tools to advance environmental justice. Freij holds a bachelor's degree in environmental science and policy from California State University, Long Beach and earned her JD from UCLA Law School, where she received the Chancellor's Service Award and the David J. Hayes Environmental Law Scholarship. While in law school, she was editor-in-chief of the UCLA Journal of Environmental Law and Policy and interned with the California Department of Justice, NRDC's Litigation team, Environmental Defense Center, and NOAA. She is based in NRDC's Santa Monica office.
