As a dedicated advocate for environmental and climate justice, Nia Mitchell brings interdisciplinary expertise and cross-sectoral experiences to NRDC. Mitchell is spearheading projects aimed at advancing equitable climate resilience strategies through meaningful partnerships with diverse stakeholders and peer learning. With a background in managing programs like C40 Cities and the U.S. Health, Equity, and Climate partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, she has a deep understanding of the intersectional solutions to climate action and the transformative power of centering historically disinvested communities in policy initiatives. She works to improve impact by leveraging knowledge management with iterative engagement that embeds lessons learned for community deliverables, and she uses her background in community organizing and leadership development to engage practitioners and design learning systems equitably and holistically. Mitchell is an ancestor-in-training, accountable to future generations and committed to the collective pathway to climate justice. She holds a master of science degree in climate justice from Glasgow Caledonian University and a bachelor's degree in environmental studies, Black studies, and anthropology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She is based in the New York City office.
