Full-page Ad Urges EPA to Veto the Pebble Mine and Permanently Protect Bristol Bay

Groups representing millions of supporters across Alaska and the world ran a full-page ad in today’s D.C. edition of the New York Times.

The ad is part of a multi-platform print and digital media campaign running across Washington, D.C. for the next two weeks. It urges EPA to permanently protect Bristol Bay, Alaska from the ongoing threat of the Pebble Mine—a giant gold and copper mine proposed at the headwaters of the world’s greatest wild salmon fishery.

Bristol Bay is the world’s most valuable salmon fishery. It generates $2.2 billion in annual economic activity, supports 15,000 jobs, and supplies 57% of the world’s wild sockeye.

More than 270 businesses and organizations support the regionally led vision for Bristol Bay’s sustainable future and join the Tribes and business leaders from the region calling on EPA to use its authority under Section 404(c) of the Clean Water Act to permanently protect Bristol Bay’s waters.

Bristol Bay is recognized as “one of America’s greatest national treasures” and deserves protection from the ongoing threat of the Pebble Mine.

Now is the time for EPA to act.
