Westside Bus and Bike Projects Are a Win for Mobility and Climate
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation is working to create a full-time dedicated bus lane and continuous protected bike lane on Venice Boulevard, an important east-west corridor.

Angelenos seeking affordable and climate-friendly ways to get around town will enjoy a new suite of improvements coming to Venice Boulevard that will speed up buses and make the street safer for people biking and walking around their community.

The project includes:
- Protected and buffered bike lanes
- Dedicated bus-only lanes
- Upgraded high-visibility crosswalks
- High-visibility pavement markings through intersections and at conflict zones
- Additional left turn pockets for double left turns in each direction
The project represents a positive milestone for LADOT’s collaboration with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) to coordinate on speeding up Metro’s buses that run on city streets.
Additional bus-only lanes have been recently completed or are in the works on Flower Street, Fifth and Sixth Streets, Aliso Street, Olive Street, Grand Avenue, Alvarado Street, and Alameda Street. These bus lanes not only get riders through traffic faster but they allow Metro to operate more efficiently. Buses that spend less time in traffic can be put into service providing increased frequency and reliability for riders.
