WASHINGTON – Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced today that his state would pursue clean car and zero-emission vehicle standards, joining Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico who announced a similar step just yesterday.

The following is a comment from Luke Tonachel, director for clean cars and fuels at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC):

“While the Trump administration is working to stall clean car standards, a growing number of states are stepping up and showing they want to protect their air and curtail the largest source of carbon pollution. Their actions underscore that Trump is driving us in the wrong direction.

“Once Minnesota and New Mexico finish their policymaking process and join the 14 other states in establishing these standards, 125 million Americans will live in states committed to bringing down the tailpipe pollution of vehicles. We will continue to fight for the long-established authority of these states to protect their citizens from dirty air.”
