500 Anti-Environment Measures from the Trump Administration
NRDC documented 500 measures that would harm public health or the climate from this administration, an average of one each day it has been in office.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Trump administration hit a grim milestone today, as NRDC’s White House Watch documented the 500th harmful action taken that would damage public health or the climate, an astonishing one for every day it has been in office.
Fittingly, the 500th item is today’s announcement of hundreds of millions of dollars to bail out of old, dirty coal plants.
NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) began tracking these rollbacks and harmful actions early in President Trump’s second term, and White House Watch provides the most comprehensive accounting of the unprecedented environmental destruction from this administration.
NRDC has also helped lead the legal effort to halt this harm, filing 48 cases against this administration’s actions, as well as scores of public comments and public records requests.
Following is a comment from Manish Bapna, president & CEO of NRDC:
“This grim milestone confirms what is crystal clear to millions of Americans across our nation: The Trump administration has undertaken the worst attack on our health, welfare and natural treasures in modern history. It’s putting polluters before people.
“At a rate of once a day, the Trump administration is rolling back protections for our drinking water, the air we breathe, and the climate, leaving our nation poorer and sicker for decades to come.
“NRDC and our allies are fighting back. Our lawyers have filed four dozen cases to stop them in court, and while justice takes time, we expect this administration’s reckless disregard for the law to boomerang against it. Whether it’s tailpipe pollution rules or protection for endangered manatees and whales in the Gulf, the law and the facts are not on their side.
“The damage from these 500 actions is high, but every day we will keep fighting for clean air and water, protection of our natural bounty, and a safer climate.”
