Clean Freight Means Cleaner Air

WASHINGTON – The Biden administration released a plan to establish Zero-Emission Freight Corridors along some of the most-traveled and polluted freight routes in the country. With the federal government directing funding to these routes, these corridors will help speed up the installation of the charging infrastructure necessary to get more electric trucks on the road.

The following is a statement from Guillermo Ortiz, clean vehicles advocate at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“Trucks have been spewing pollution at communities near highways, freight hubs and ports for far too long. The federal government needs to accelerate the transition away from the diesel behemoths, and this plan is a key part of doing that.

“We don’t need to build everything, everywhere, all at once. This phased approach will allow our nation to electrify the largest number of trucks along the most-traveled highways. It will cut pollution effectively and affordably, while paving the way for even greater benefits down the road.

“The administration can best build on this effort by adopting strong EPA standards to slash tailpipe pollution from trucks.”
