Cuomo Lays Out Promising Clean Energy, Environmental Goals in 2016 State of the State Address

ALBANY, N.Y. (January 13, 2016) – Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced plans to grow the state’s clean energy economy and protect its environment in his annual State of the State address.

A statement follows from Richard Schrader, New York Legislative Director at the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“The Governor has announced a bold path for the state to continue moving away from the dirty energy sources of the past, toward the clean energy sources that will power us into the future. These plans for the coming year are promising for the health of our children, the strength of our local workforce, the security of our communities, and the future for our state. From phasing out coal power in the next few years to phasing in offshore wind, boosting solar power, increasing energy efficiency and making our cars cleaner, the state can continue its forward momentum in the battle against climate change—and create thousands of local jobs in the process. At the same time, commitments to preserve the state's wild places, support its farming industry, and fund critical environment protection will preserve New York's rural economy and natural heritage. We look forward to working with the state to put these strong commitments into action.”
