Governor Hochul Signs Bill to Make Polluters Pay

ALBANY, NY  – Governor Kathy Hochul today signed into law the Climate Change Superfund Act (S2129A/A3351A). New York is the second state in the country to enact such a law, following Vermont.

The following is reaction from Richard Schrader, Director, New York Government Affairs at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“By signing the Climate Change Superfund Act, Gov. Hochul is addressing the financial burden placed on New Yorkers by the fossil fuel companies. It’s a key example of what putting fiscal fairness and environmental justice front and center looks like. The funds raised by this measure will allow for investment in life-saving infrastructure improvements: safeguarding coastal communities from flooding, creating systems to protect people from extreme heat, and improving responses to environmental and public health threats.”

NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) is an international nonprofit environmental organization with more than 3 million members and online activists.
