Jake Thompson, Top Senate Aide and Veteran Journalist, Joins NRDC’s Communications Team

WASHINGTON (September 24, 2012) — Jake Thompson, former communications director for Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), today joined the federal communications team at the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Thompson was a Washington journalist for more than two decades before joining Nelson's office in 2008. He also is author of “Bob Dole: The Republicans’ Man for All Seasons,” a biography of the then-Senate minority leader that became a campaign trail bible for journalists covering Dole’s 1996 presidential bid.

“Jake brings a special expertise to our Washington office, having worked so extensively in journalism and on the Hill,” said Phil Gutis, NRDC’s communications director. “Jake’s arrival further strengthens both a federal communications team that is already unrivaled in Washington’s advocacy world and NRDC’s work to protect our natural resources, public health and the environment.”

Thompson has won a number of journalism awards while reporting from Washington for the Omaha World-Herald and the Kansas City Star.

A graduate of the University of Kansas, he lives in Bethesda, Md.
