A New Leader for CARB

SACRAMENTO  – Liane Randolph stepped down as chair of the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and Lauren Sanchez will assume this role, Governor Gavin Newsom announced today. CARB is the nation’s pre-eminent air pollution and climate change regulatory agency.

The following is a comment from Manish Bapna, president and CEO of NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“As the leader at CARB, Liane Randolph spearheaded the adoption of landmark policies to limit the pollution spewing from cars and trucks, and to put California on the path to carbon neutrality. Liane worked with stakeholders from all sides to deliver on world-leading policies that curb pollution and help advance clean energy jobs. Her accomplishments will generate benefits for decades to come.

“While Liane Randolph will be missed, the nation’s leading air quality regulator will be in great hands with Lauren Sanchez. Lauren’s tenure as senior climate advisor to Governor Newsom demonstrated her collaborative nature and awareness of the importance of California's actions in the global fight against climate change. She has worked tirelessly to deliver policies that will result in an affordable and prosperous transition to clean energy. Lauren brings that determination and sound judgment to her new role just as we need it most.

“Given the regressive, harmful actions from the Trump administration, Sanchez faces a difficult road ahead. We look forward to working with her to continue California’s leadership protecting the air and delivering a safer climate."
