Trump Pushes Arctic Refuge Drilling Despite Industry and Public Opposition

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — The Trump administration announced a new executive order to push drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The following is a statement from Garett Rose, senior attorney at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“The Arctic Refuge is no place for drilling. The oil industry itself recognized this when they failed to show up for the lease sale less than two weeks ago. The Trump administration apparently does not. The refuge’s unparalleled natural values are of overriding importance to the Gwich’in people, to the wildlife that call the refuge home, and to the nation’s ecological integrity. We’ve long fought to keep oil and gas drilling out of the refuge, and we’ll continue to use every tool at our disposal to protect one of America’s crown jewels.”
