Daniel Sawmiller

As NRDC’s director of energy policy in Ohio, Dan Sawmiller works with a wide range of energy industry stakeholders to advocate for clean energy and climate policies before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the General Assembly. Previously, Sawmiller was the senior representative for the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal to Clean Energy campaign in Ohio, where he developed and executed initiatives to boost the visibility of sustainability and environmental issues in the electricity sector. He also served as a senior regulatory analyst and economist with the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel, where he worked to safeguard the interests of residential regulated utility customers throughout the state and played an integral role in the passage of legislation that introduced clean energy standards throughout Ohio. Sawmiller has provided expert witness testimony in regulatory proceedings and before the Ohio legislature. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Bowling Green State University and is a decorated combat veteran who honorably served in Ohio’s Army National Guard.
