As director of the Land Markets Initiative for NRDC’s Land & Wildlife program, Debbie Hammel concentrates on issues relating to bioenergy and sustainable forest management. With more than 30 years of experience in designing third-party environmental certification systems, she is an internationally recognized expert on sustainable forest management, supply-chain management, and chain-of-custody certification. Her recent work has focused on shaping renewable energy policy at the international, state, and federal levels, as well as in the private-sector to ensure bioenergy reduces carbon emissions and protects our land, water, and wildlife. Hammel is based in San Francisco.
