Luke Tonachel
With over two decades of experience advocating for the clean energy economy, Luke Tonachel works across the power, transportation, buildings, and industrial sectors with a focus on affordable and beneficial electrification policy. Tonachel has led national and state-level campaigns to advance clean and energy-efficient vehicles, charging infrastructure, and clean fuels. He has authored and contributed to numerous nationally recognized reports and analyses covering vehicle electrification, improved vehicle efficiency, and other oil and pollution reduction opportunities. Before working at NRDC, he received hands-on experience with energy systems and propulsion plants while serving as a nuclear engineering and surface warfare officer aboard a U.S. Navy cruiser. Tonachel holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Rochester and a master’s in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley. He is based in New York City.
