Sitara Witanachchi

Senior Attorney

Prior to joining NRDC, Sitara Witanachchi worked for almost a decade as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) in Washington, D.C. During her tenure there, she led the investigation and prosecution of a wide array of complex criminal matters, ranging from homicides to organized crime and racketeering cases. As a seasoned trial lawyer, she has successfully handled numerous jury trials and large-scale grand jury investigations involving multi-defendant criminal conspiracies. Before joining the USAO, Witanachchi served as a law clerk for the Honorable G. Michael Harvey at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and for the Honorable Mary Ellen Coster Williams at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Witanachchi holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a JD from Duke University School of Law. She is based in the NRDC's Washington, D.C., office.
