Steve Fleischli’s area of focus encompasses not only water quality but also the role of water security in climate-preparedness programs and the relationship of water to energy production. Prior to joining NRDC in 2010, he served as the executive director and later the president of Waterkeeper Alliance, an international organization that supports local watershed programs in more than 260 communities on six continents. Before that he served for four years at the Santa Monica Baykeeper in Los Angeles. Fleischli has also worked as a legal and policy analyst for the Heal the Bay organization and as an adjunct law professor at Pepperdine University School of Law. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and a JD from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is based in Santa Monica.
