Interior Dept. Announces Plan to Save the Greater Sage-Grouse

WASHINGTON (May 28, 2015) -- The Interior Department today unveiled a plan to protect and preserve the habitat of the greater sage-grouse, an iconic species of the West that is threatened by commercial development and energy projects.

The following is a statement by Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“The greater sage-grouse conservation plan is a huge step in the right direction that holds out the promise to save not only this beautiful bird but also hundreds of other species, while protecting some of America’s most precious and scenic lands. Today's announcement is the result of years of investments made by federal, state, and countless individuals dedicated to restoring the nation’s vast sagebrush landscape, but many details remain to be filled in before that vision can be fully realized.  We will continue working with the Department to strengthen its plan and ensure that the sage-grouse is permanently protected.’’
