NRDC Applauds Obama Administration Move to Exclude Arctic from Oil and Gas Drilling

WASHINGTON – The Obama Administration today announced it will exclude the Arctic Ocean from oil and gas leasing for the next five years.

The following is a statement by Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“This is a significant milestone in protecting the fragile Arctic Ocean and limiting climate change.  And the President has the authority to do even more.  He can ban dangerous oil and gas drilling in the Arctic—and the Atlantic—for all time.  Now, more than ever, we need to act boldly on climate.”
