Revisiting the Concluded Review of Clean Car Standards is a Waste of Taxpayer Resources

EPA Should Listen to Americans that Support Clean Cars and Healthier Communities

WASHINGTON – The Environmental Protection Agency is holding a public hearing today to review clean car standards for model years 2022-2025. The hearing follows a recent Trump administration decision to restart a process that had been completed in January 2017, after an extensive, multi-year analysis found that the standards are working as planned.

The following is a statement by Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“Another evaluation of the successful clean car program is a political ploy and a waste of taxpayer resources. President Trump’s push to roll back these standards is deeply unpopular with Americans. That’s because the standards are saving drivers money at the pump, creating good paying jobs, and cutting pollution in our communities.

“Any honest review of the program that’s based on science will reaffirm that the standards are achievable and should remain in place. Just like with Trump’s other efforts to weaken or dismantle our environmental protections, Americans will not stand by idly. This hearing is a chance to show support for a program that protects our health and advances American innovation.”
