Court Avoids Weighing in on Trump’s Attack on Regulations

WASHINGTON - A federal judge today dismissed on procedural grounds a lawsuit by the Natural Resources Defense Council, Public Citizen and the Communication Workers of America.

The case challenged President Trump’s 2017 executive order requiring agencies to repeal two existing regulations for each new regulation they put in place.  The lawsuit asked the court to stop the administration from implementing and enforcing the order. The court dismissed the lawsuit, holding that the plaintiffs had not yet shown that the order was injuring them, but left the door open to a future challenge.

The following is a statement by Michael Wall, Co-Director of Litigation for the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“President Trump’s executive order shows a dangerous disregard for regulations that protect our families and communities from pollution, and that ensure clean air, safe drinking water, and uncontaminated food.”
