EPA’s Move to Bury Safeguard Benefits Threatens Our Health and Environment

WASHINGTON -- The Environmental Protection Agency today, in a notice of proposed rulemaking, moved to downplay the benefits of public health and environmental safeguards.

The following is a statement by Ana Unruh Cohen, managing director for government affairs at the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“Scott Pruitt’s latest gambit is as misguided as it is dangerous. It also is founded on a big lie: that federal rules cost more than the benefits. In fact, the opposite is true – by a country mile. The benefits of public safeguards far exceed the cost of adopting them. Don’t just take our word for it. The Trump administration’s own Office of Management and Budget found that for every dollar spent complying with safeguards, Americans reaped between $2 and $12 of benefits.”
