Next Supreme Court Justice Should Enforce the Laws that Hold Polluters Accountable

WASHINGTON – President Trump tonight nominated D. C. federal appeals court judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to succeed Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, made the following statement:

“Our next Supreme Court justice will cast pivotal votes on the kind of world we leave to our children. High court rulings will sustain or diminish our government’s capacity to preserve clean air and water, safeguard our public lands, defend wildlife from the threat of extinction and fight the growing dangers of climate change.

“These decisions will impact our daily lives for generations to come, and the stakes could not be higher - for our families, our communities and our country.

“The Senate must make sure the next justice respects and enforces the laws that hold polluters in check and protect our environment and health.”
