John Bowman, Veteran Hill Aide, Campaign Activist, Environmental Advocate, Joins NRDC

WASHINGTON – John Bowman, a former top congressional staffer and veteran advocate of progressive causes, has joined the Natural Resources Defense Council as Senior Director for Federal Affairs, NRDC announced.

Bowman most recently was the American Association for Justice’s federal relations director. He also has worked at Taxpayers for Common Sense and the Environmental Defense Fund. In 2007 and 2008, Bowman served as chief of staff to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.).

He also served as director of the District of Columbia’s Obama for America campaign in 2008.

A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Bowman earned his BS in business management from the University of Maryland and his JD from Florida State University.

“We are thrilled to add such an accomplished advocate to NRDC’s government affairs team. John will help elevate our work on behalf of public health and the environment,” said Ana Unruh Cohen, Managing Director of Government Affairs.

Bowman replaces Scott Slesinger, NRDC’s longtime legislative director. Slesinger joined NRDC in 2009. He will continue in the role of Senior Advisor for Government Affairs to the organization’s Center for Policy Advocacy.
