Xcel Energy to Go Carbon-Free

DENVER – Xcel Energy company today announced a goal to eliminate all carbon emissions associated with their generating fleet by 2050. This proposal stands among the most ambitious emissions reductions proposed by America’s major utilities.

Following is reaction from Noah Long, Western Energy director at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC):

“The public is demanding cleaner energy and skies. We look forward to seeing how other utilities keep up with Xcel’s ambitious target.

“This reinforces that the economics of energy have shifted. It is cheaper to be clean. Renewables and energy efficiency are the leading way forward, making Xcel’s commitment doable and economic.”
