WASHINGTON – The House approved today the Climate Action Now Act, which declares the United States will keep its commitments under the landmark Paris Agreement to curb climate change. This is the first vote in a decade by Congress to reduce the threats of climate change.

Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council issued this statement about the vote:

“Nothing better demonstrates the newfound climate leadership in Congress than today’s vote. The House is responding to the rising calls, from every quarter, for action to combat the soaring costs and the mounting dangers of climate change. And it’s signaling to the country, and the world, that Americans intend to keep the promises we made in Paris.

“Today’s vote also sends a strong message to the GOP-led Senate: blocking this long overdue climate progress would recklessly put the health and future of our children at risk.”
