NRDC on WaterFix Announcement: “Successful End of Fight”

Sacramento, CA– The State of California announced the withdrawal of permits and applications for the California WaterFix Project, the proposal to construct two massive tunnels under the Delta that would cost tens of billions of dollars and divert even more water from the fragile Bay-Delta estuary, and will instead take a fresh look at designing a single Delta tunnel project.  

Following is a statement from Doug Obegi, Senior Director of River Restoration at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC):

“Over the last decade, Delta communities, fishermen, and conservation groups have risen up to take a stand against the WaterFix project to protect the health of the Bay-Delta estuary. Today’s announcement appears to mark the successful end of that fight. We now look forward to working with the Newsom Administration on sustainable water solutions that will protect the economy and the environment.”
