HARRISBURG, P.A. (October 3, 2019) – Governor Tom Wolf today directed the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to develop a pathway for Pennsylvania to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) – a multi-state effort designed to cut carbon pollution from power plants across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and invest in consumer benefits.

A statement follows from Mark Szybist, Senior Attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC):

“This is a decisive signal that Pennsylvania is stepping up its climate leadership. As the legislature pushes subsidies for fossil fuels, Governor Wolf is putting Pennsylvanians on the path to a cleaner, more prosperous future. Joining this regional effort would not only curb climate pollution, it would also jumpstart the state’s transition to a clean energy economy. This is a win for strong climate action.”
